We loved the Mountains but Mendoza is really about wine and food. Sarah and Lia found their way into a vineyard and tried their hand at picking grapes. Neither decided to quit her job and pick for a living.

We went to a place called The Vines to taste local wine and cheese. We were offered the unique opportunity to buy 5 acres of prime
grapeland, complete with a master vintner to design and build our wine, bottle it, and slap our own label on it, all for $40,000 plus expenses. Though the chance to develop our own wine without ever stepping on a grape was appealing - we took a pass. Instead we went to dinner with Dennis the Chilean (left below) and Luis the Spaniard (right below). Dining on Argentinian beef and wine we discussed
futbol (is
Beckham good for
MLS?), tennis (
Nadal or
Federer?) and movies (does Franck look like Mark
Wahlberg?). Luis describes his version of the evening at
www.leblogdumodigliani.blogspot.com. He is the better writer.

Dennis works at
Tempus Alba bodega. He showcased his impeccable English as we toured his bodega. He was a bit absentminded and kept forgetting what wine we wanted to taste. Maybe it was because as a professional he was required to test each bottle before pouring. Maybe it was because he was in love. In any event, he told us he doesn't like the Dutch.

All this wine tasting is exhausting.

More wine tasting. This time at
Familia Zuccardi (Maker of Santa Julia wine). This tasting came with a five course luncheon.

On our earlier trip through the mountains we found a restaurant in the middle of nowhere. We followed small hand-made wooden signs to "La
Rotiseria". The food was better than the view.

Franck and Lia impressed us with their sausage making skills. Lia's Wisconsin upbringing, Franck's French culinary education, and Argentina's Andes beer and fresh bratwurst combined for the perfect sausage.

Which we enjoyed with wine in the comfort of our cozy mountain cabin.

We agree with Luis that Franck looks like Mark
Wahlberg.

Though I don't agree with Luis when he says I look like Stanley Kubrick.

At least not yet.
