Ending the year on a musical note

In December we wrapped up our first year in Argentina with two very memorable concerts.
First we caught The Police on their reunion tour. They played a two night stand at the 60,000-seat River Plate stadium. It was a perfectly night for a concert under the stars.

Beck opened the show.

He sounded great and it was accompanied by a terrific band, especially the guy on guitar wearing the yellow shirt. He wins the award for best hair. He also had some pretty spiffy dance moves.
After nearly being trampled by a gaggle of 100 pound Argentine women when The Police took to the stage playing "Message In A Bottle," we settled in and enjoyed the show.
It was a fun concert. No new tracks, just the classic Police songs we all know and love. They sounded pretty good too.
Although it seems that Sting's body has aged a bit better than his voice.
The following weekend we headed to the Club Ciudad de Buenos Aires a sprawling sports club a short subway ride and long walk away from our apartment featuring soccer fields, pools, tennis courts and enough open space to play host to one of the season's most well advertised music festivals, Personal Fest.
We missed the first night featuring headliner Snoop Dogg and Portland's own Dandy Warhols, but did catch the second night which included this interesting band wearing alien masks, wool suits and ties...

...and the highlight of the evening, Chris Cornell.It was Cornell's first ever concert in Argentina.
Trevor was in heaven as Cornell and his band played hit after hit from not only his solo and Soundgarden days, but from the Temple of the Dog era as well.Stay tuned because there's more to come in 2008!
