The End of the Road -Tierra del Fuego

Arriving in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost city in the world by bus is no easy feat. A fact I wish we'd considered before venturing down to the gateway to Antarctica by bus.

After multiple border crossings...

a ferry ride across the Strait of Magellan ...

and a mere twelve hours of travel, we finally made the dramatic descent into Ushuaia.

However, it was worth the trip. Not just for the spectacular views from the hills of the city overlooking the busy port where both cruise ships and tankers shared the bay with the wildlife.

But also for the general feel of this slightly quirky place.

A touristy town, we took advantage of the many options to hit the water and spent an afternoon sailing around the Bridge Island in the Bay of Ushuaia.

It may be the middle of summer, but this far south it felt more like winter to me.

Never ones to miss the opportunity to visit a National Park, we also spent some time in the Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego. While Trevor rested,

and checked out neighboring real estate opportunities,

I hiked around Lago Roca.

One of the most amazing things was that the days seemed to last all night! With sunset around 11 p.m. heading out to dinner before dark seemed oddly un-Argentinian.

However, we thoroughly enjoyed the local specialty, king crab!
